Laguna Garzón is a short cycle from Viejo Fox or a couple of minutes by car. The lake connects the departments of Maldonado and Rocha and currently a small ferry shuttles cars over the lake. A modest bridge is now under construction designed by the famous Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly which will connect the coast road of Maldonano with the wild empty beaches of Rocha.
The laguna is an interesting birding site with high biological diversity. It is the breeding site of a large number of bird species, fish and shellfish and has been granted IBA status, Important Area for Bird Conservation. Black-necked swans, flamingos and white geese, herons, plovers, coots, oystercatchers, lapwings and terns can be found on Laguna Garzón.
